About the project-2020
Background: This project deals with redesigning Clemson University's Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) web portal. The previous web portal was not updated often. And it did not display adequate information. To better support the needs of web portal users, our team revamped the web portal to improve the user experience. The project started on August 25th and ended on December 3rd, 2020.
Requirement: Follow design principles of Clemson University websites
Update (2022): The redesign has been adopted by the school! Check updated Clemson Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) website.
Design Process
1. Identified user needs: customer selection matrix; interviews with our client and other stakeholders (professors, staff, current students, prospective students, etc); mission statement; hierarchy of need statements
2. Established target specifications: needs-metrics matrix; competitive benchmarking chart
3. Created personas
4. Generated design fragments and concepts: selection; screening; scoring;
5. Created iterative wireframes and prototypes
6. Refined the prototype based on iterative usability tests and feedback
Highlights
1. Clearer structure: Unfolded treeview navigation sidebar
2. More up-to-date related information
3. Appropriate amount of visuals
before: previous cem Web Portal
Only 3 pages; insufficient information; outdated content
after: Figma Prototype
